Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings director Destin Daniel Cretton has discovered that an replacement ending was reasoned for a particular character. Major spoilers forrade!

Wenwu ends up caught by the Habitant in Darkness, and in his last moments gives the Ten Rings to Shang-Chi, who watches impotently as the creature kills his father.

As for wherefore this alternate ending didn't get in to the broad screen, Cretton explained: "Some things just work and some things don't. We're constantly searching for the version of the story that feels most trusty to the characters. I awful, equal though these characters are operating on a very operatic level, there's still things that you endeavor that just feel like cheats. And that was unity of them. But, you know, also in the MCU, anything rump happen."
